Wouldn’t Get Far is the name of the third single from The Game’s sophomore album Doctor’s Advocate. The song is produced by and features a verse from Kanye West. It contains a sample from Creative Source’s “I’d Find You Anywhere”. The sample has also been used in a Jadakiss track called “By Your Side”, produced by The Alchemist. A brief sample of J Dilla’s Stepson of the Clapper. Kanye West revealed that the beat for the song was originally made for Common (and if Game had turned it down, Kanye would have used it for himself)
In the song, “Wouldn’t Get Far“, The Game mentions and criticizes, by both name and alias, many up-and coming and established video vixens, models, and actresses. The women addressed include: Nicole Alexander and Karrine Steffans (who are also known and mentioned as “Hoopz” and “Superhead”, respectively), Vida Guerra, Gloria Velez, Halle Berry, Toccara Jones, Meagan Good, Lil’ Kim, Charli Baltimore, Gabrielle Union, and Melyssa Ford.
In the song, Gabrielle Union, Megan Good, and Tocarra Jones are mentioned in a somewhat negative light. Melyssa Ford, has said she was disappointed with both The Game and Kanye West for creating the song.
After the final verse of the song, The Game can be heard talking in a similar style as Snoop Dogg did in 2Pac’s song All Bout U from his 1996 album All Eyez on Me. However, this portion of the song is not availble on the radio edited version (it was also not premiered on the video). Later, video diva vida Guerra makes a 30 second rap diss to the Game in retaliation to his pejorative remarks about how video models succeed in the business. She insinuates that he is desperate for her and that he is gay, making him confused about his sexuality.
Prior to filming the music video The Game said that he was hoping some of the video vixens he mentions in the song would come down for the shoot to lighten some of the tension that had built because of the track lyrics. In the end only Gloria Velez turned up and is seen in the video, the others are played by look-alikes.
The music video premiered on BET’s Access Granted on Wednesday, January 31. The Game’s homies, Lil Jon, Pitbull, Paul Wall, Black Wall Street artist Juice, porn star Vanessa Blue and the video director Bryan Barber all made cameo appearances in the video.
