“Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” is T-Pain’s single released on February 20, 2007 and is currently the number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is the first official single from T-Pain’s upcoming album Epiphany. The song also features rapper Yung Joc. The song samples Yung Joc’s song “Patrón”.
It is noted for having many references to other rap songs. Lil Scrappy’s single Money in the Bank is referenced in the chorus with the line, “I got money in the bank”. At the beginning, you hear the line, “Snap yo fingers, do your step, you can do it all by yourself,” a lead line from the Lil Jon single, Snap Yo Fingers. Also, the ending of the chorus steals from rapper Lil Boosie when he states (”We in the bed like ooh, ooh, ooh”) while doing the dance also seen in the “Zoom” video when Lil Boosie states (”We in the club like Zoom, Zoom, Zoom”). Also, during the first verse, T-Pain says “Konvict Muzik Nappy Boy ohh wee”, a reference to Akon’s album Konvicted and to Akon’s popular “Konvict Muzik” line. Lastly, towards the end and in the second verse, you here the words “Walk it out!” rapped in a very similar voice to how they are in Unk’s single Walk It Out. The music video premiered on April 9, 2007 on MTV and features cameos from various artists such as E-40, Gorilla Zoe, Huey, Tay Dizm, Shawnna, J. Lyriq, Kardinal Offishall and many others.
The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 84 in early March 2007. On the issue date of May 12, 2007 the single became T-Pain’s first number 1 single on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On the same Billboard magazine issue date, Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’) became T-Pain’s highest charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 to date, surpassing the number 5 peak of I’m N Luv (Wit A Stripper). On the issue date of May 26, 2007, Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’) became T-Pain as well as Yung Joc’s first number 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100.
It is currently the #1 Urban and Rhythmic song in America according to Radio And Records.
